Cat's eye, called Lehsunia or Vaidurya in India, is a chatoyant chrysoberyl: a single bright band of light moves across the stone as it turns, like the slit of a cat's eye. It is one of the nine Navratna gemstones and, in Vedic astrology, the stone of the shadow planet Ketu. Traditionally it is worn on an astrologer's advice, for protection from hidden enemies and sudden setbacks, for cutting through confusion, and to steady one's luck.
How to choose a good eye
The value of a cat's eye is in its eye. Look for a single, sharp, bright line that sits centred and stays straight as the stone rolls, on a clean, even body colour. A crisp eye and a higher ratti weight cost more; a soft or wandering line costs less. Our stones are graded A, AA and Premium so you can match the eye to your budget.
