About the stone

Soapstone, also known as steatite, has been used for centuries across ancient civilisations for carving sacred objects, ritual tools and ceremonial pieces. Soft enough to carve with precision yet strong enough to last, it holds the warmth of the hands that shaped it. Naturally heat resistant and grounding in energy, it is believed to carry a calming, stabilising vibration that suits it to sacred space.

Artisan soapstone incense holder

The stone, up close

Soft enough to carve, strong enough to keep.

Soapstone is one of the softest stones there is, which is exactly why artisans can cut this much detail into it by hand. It warms to the touch, takes a smooth finish and holds the marks of the hands that shaped it. No two holders carry the carving in quite the same way.

Chosen & charged

Real stone, by hand.

No filler, no fakes. Every holder is hand carved, cleansed and charged by singing bowl, and packed by hand before it reaches you.

Handcrafted soapstone incense holder

Before you buy

Questions, answered

Is this really hand carved?

Yes. Every holder is carved by hand from natural soapstone by skilled artisans, which is why carving depth, colour and texture vary slightly between pieces. Those small differences are the mark of authentic handcraft rather than a moulded copy.

How many incense sticks does it hold?

It has multiple holes that hold standard incense sticks securely at different angles, so you can burn one or several at a time. The carved surface catches the ash as it falls and keeps the space around it clean.

What is soapstone and why is it used for ritual objects?

Soapstone, also known as steatite, has been carved into sacred objects and ceremonial tools across ancient civilisations for centuries. It is soft enough to carve with real precision yet strong enough to last, and it is naturally heat resistant, which suits it well to burning incense. It is believed to carry a calming, stabilising energy.

Which designs are available?

Six designs are available: Red Sunflower, Teal Daisy, Navy Leaf Wreath, Green Spiral, Brown Lotus and Red Mandala Lotus. Choose the one you would like at checkout.

How do I clean and care for it?

Let the holder cool fully, then brush the ash away with a dry cloth or a soft brush. Soapstone is porous, so avoid soaking it or using harsh cleaners. A lightly damp cloth is enough for marks, and it should be dried straight afterwards.
